January 2026 Reflection

This semester, I would like to continue honing my skills with web design and documentation. These goals are in line with the current state of the project, but also with general skills I would like to keep as I leave Grinnell. Last semester marked the TDPS Archive project reaching a more stable point of functionality, and between then and now I have been setting up for my transition out of the project and making sure Kate and Erik have everything they need to go forward. This setup involved writing the vast majority of documentation for the maintenance of the website, understanding my audience to be people adding images to the website who do not have a huge grasp of the technical details of it. Thinking about that dynamic was very engaging and an aspect of this project that I did not expect to enjoy as much as I did.

Other ways I can engage more with documentation work would be training reviews, which are an option for professional development. I have done a couple in past months and I found it to be a great exercise that’s informed how I structure my own documentation. I could also create my own trainings for certain programs that Vivero does not cover yet, like possibly CollectionBuilder.
